Ohio Family Violence Prevention

Family violence is a pattern of behavior (including neglect and exploitation, as well as physical, sexual and emotional abuse) that emerges over time and that occurs in the context of a trust relationship. The Ohio Family Violence Prevention Project (OFVPP) focused on three of the most common types: child maltreatment, intimate partner violence and elder abuse. These are not the only important kinds of family violence – we chose to focus on them because of the lack of research on other types.

With funding support from The HealthPath Foundation of Ohio, and administrative support from Nationwide Children’s Hospital, the OFVPP compiles findings for the 2014 update and expansion of the 2010 Ohio Family Violence County Profiles and “The Scope of Family Violence in Ohio” report. Data are now available to show the prevalence of family violence at the county level. Data from the study along with published materials are available for free from our online dashboard and website.
